Chicana/Latina High School Conference at SDSU

The Association of Chicana Activists (A.Ch.A.) at San Diego State University would like to cordially invite you, your students, and their parents to our 24th Annual Chicana/Latina High School Conference on Saturday, April 15, 2016.

This conference is offered to promote: higher education, cultural awareness, positive Chicana/Latina role models, and self-determination to youth of all genders. It is very important to note that this conference is not exclusive for young women, and we encourage all to attend.

A.Ch.A. works to provide our low income, first generation, and underrepresented students with the tools and motivation needed to obtain a higher education. Regardless of the obstacles that are present today such as tuition and fee increases, rising costs of living, and less funding for vital services, we believe that they should not stop students from attending college.

Our 24th Annual Chicana/Latina High School Conference theme is: “People of Color: Creating New Narratives for Our Education and Our Communities.”

The conference will be held in Montezuma Hall in the Aztec Student Union at San Diego State University and free parking will be provided. Registration and breakfast will begin at 8:00 am and our program will end at 4:00 pm.

Our conference will host workshops that discuss: financial aid, the path to a four year university, and current social and cultural issues, among many other topics.

This conference is absolutely free and includes: breakfast and lunch, daycare for anyone who may need it, empowering keynote speakers, scholarships, and live entertainment.

All high school students, parents, educators and members of the community are welcome to attend. Everyone is welcome!

Register for the conference at http://sdsuacha.webs.com/registration.htm

A.Ch.A scholarships will be awarded at the conference and we encourage all eligible students to apply. The deadline to submit a scholarship application is Sunday, April 1st, 2017 at 11:59 PM. Please note that applicants must be present at the High School Conference in order to receive the scholarship if awarded.
